One of the better lists of best metal albums of 2009 around so far. Personally, I don't think anything comes close to Crack the Skye this year but it's a fair representation of some of this year's best releases.
ReplyDeleteBands missing IMO are Sylosis, Pathosray, and Redemption.
Wonder why "And So I Watch You From Afar" isn't on the list, or is that not considered in the vicinity of metal for you?
Interesting, I never thought of ASIWYFA as being a metal act -- but your point is well taken, they can be very heavy at times. But I think that by strict definition they are not a metal band. They don't have that chug-a-chug riffing or post-metal quality to them (like Pelican or Isis).
ReplyDeleteBTW, I didn't include Russian Cirlces as being a 'metal' act this year even though in the past they would most certainly qualify.
I think you forgot the best metal album of the year. Children- Hard Times Hanging at the End of the World.
ReplyDeleteGood list. My top 5 is the same as yours, slight different order though
